NORAH JONES Live in New Orleans
BBC Four, 14 February 2003

Norah Jones has become one of the most popular artists in the US in the space of a couple of years. Her debut album Come Away With Me has been a huge success for Blue Note, the respected jazz label, reaching audiences who perhaps would not categorise themselves as typical fans of the genre. This concert, filmed in New Orleans last August, features 14 songs, many of them from this album.

Jones was born in New York but moved to Texas at the age of four years old with her mother. Her father is the renowned Indian musician Ravi Shankar but she saw little of him during her childhood. From the age of six she studied piano, but gave up for a number of years and never had singing lessons. After two years studying piano and theory in the Jazz Department of the University of North Texas Jones decided to move to New York and started playing in clubs. A recording contract followed and her first album was released to acclaim.
